Performance psychology developed from sports psychology and applies its concepts in a broader range of settings. Performance psychology is less about doing more, but about doing things better. Doing more can seem overwhelming if you are already stressed out. Performance psychology helps to identify and achieve goals with focus and – perhaps more importantly – in a healthy and sustainable way. At the same time it’s useful in dealing with set-backs and improving resilience. Managing performance means not only creating peak performance, but also a healthy foundation and balance in one’s life. It considers the tasks at hand just as much as the context of performance.

Settings for performance psychology

Much of performance psychology builds on sports psychology and organizational psychology. Yet, the science of performance psychology and its principles are applicable in a variety of settings, such as sports, business, but also performing arts and high-risk professions (medical settings, military, security, etc.) and yes, even personal life settings such as relationships and family. Individuals and teams can enhance their performance through performance consulting or tackle specific challenges in a variety of contexts.

Applying performance psychology

There is no cookie-cutter approach to improving performance. Each situations warrants a thorough analysis and different approach. Each individual is different in dealing with goals and challenges.

Topics of performance psychology include:

  • Motivation
  • Stress Management
  • Self-confidence / Self-efficacy
  • Mental skills training
  • Leadership
  • Teams / Group dynamics
  • Goal setting
  • Resilience

Performance consulting

I use a cognitive-behavioral approach and influences from mindfulness and yoga in working with individuals and teams to improve mental resilience and performance. In research these methods have been proven to be effective and efficient. The goal is to bring back the focus towards the self. During the initial, free consultation we can discuss your challenges and how we may be able to work together to get you on the right track.
